Botox? Dysport? The Natural Approach? Confused as f***?! Let’s break it down.
min read
The conversation around your (very personal) skincare journey can be loud, confusing and just...annoying. With endless treatment options available to enhance our glow, refine lines, boost hydration, stimulate collagen production and so much more, it can leave little time to stay informed. We've created a handy guide to help you pick the approach that's right for you and hopefully, quiet the noise around popular treatments.
Like most of us as we age, we have considered diving into the world of invasive treatments to refine lines. It seems that for maturing women, going under the needle is the next step in our line-refining journey. At some stage, you've probably created a mental pros and cons list for each option, (so Ross from F.R.I.E.N.D.S of you). We certainly don’t want to suggest that ageing is something you should be anti about nor are we here to reverse shame you into loving your wrinkles. We just want to break it down, cut out the confusion, because life can be complicated enough.
We deep dove into some of the more commonly turned to treatments specifically for line-refining. Below are our findings, including the comparison between Botox and Dysport and Silicone as an alternative or support to Dysport and Botox treatment.
But remember, however you decide to glow up and treat your skin is up to you. There is no “one size fits all” approach to skincare. As we say, you do bloody you.
Botox and Dysport:
Botox and Dysport are both injectable treatments that work by relaxing the muscles that cause those wrinkles, crinkles and fine lines. Botox is a brand name for botulinum toxin type A, and Dysport is a brand name for abobotulinumtoxinA. They are both FDA-approved and safe when administered by a qualified medical professional.
Botox and Dysport are commonly used to treat wrinkles on the forehead, between the eyebrows, and around the eyes. The results typically last for three to six months, and the treatments are relatively quick and easy. However, they can be expensive, and there is a risk of side effects such as bruising, swelling, and drooping eyelids.
Pros: Longer lasting results, can help collagen production
Cons: Expensive, higher risk of side effects like bruising, swelling and drooping eyelids , does not benefit skin hydration
Silicone Patches:
Silicone patches are a non-invasive option for reducing wrinkles and fine lines on the face. They work by creating a microclimate that hydrates the skin and promotes collagen production. The patches can be placed on areas of concern and left on for several hours or overnight for a silicone-powered beauty sleep. They are generally safe to use and can be used in combination with other treatments for more significant results. Our Wrinkles Schminkles Silicone patches are FDA listed, TGA approved, EU certified, sustainable and cruelty free. Be careful, that isn’t the case with all brands.
We offer a range of silicon patches for wrinkles from anti wrinkle eye patches, silicon patches to refine forehead wrinkles, products for hands, neck, decolletage, and more. See the full range of Wrinkles Schminkles products here.
Pros: Inexpensive, non-invasive, convenient at-home solution to refining wrinkles, stimulating collagen production and boosting hydration
Cons: For significant results, best used in conjunction with other treatments (not sure how best to phrase this, maybe for long lasting results)
In summary, silicone patches are a non-invasive option for reducing wrinkles, boosting collagen and hydrating the skin while Botox and Dysport are injectable treatments that work by relaxing the muscles that cause wrinkles.
Naturally at Wrinkles Schminkles in 100% medical grade Silcone patches, we trust! Silicone patches can be used as an alternative to Botox and Dysport for those who prefer a non-invasive treatment or cannot use injectable treatments e.g. throughout pregnancy. They can also be a great product to use in conjunction with injectables to enhance and prolong the results of the treatment and potentially reduce on-going costs of treatments.
It is best to consult with a qualified medical professional to determine which treatment is right for you based on your individual needs and goals.
"The internet thinks these silicone patches are an affordable alternative to botox - and the skin-smoothing results are actually quite impressive."
